IDEA and Section 504 Special Education/School Law
School can be a stressful environment for the child and a time of vulnerability. Appropriate accommodations and modifications can reduce stress and can assist in achieving and maintaining educational success.
There are two primary laws that cover your child’s rights to a public education:
Individuals with Disability Education Improvement Act (IDEA)
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
These laws mandate that schools provide a free, appropriate public education for all children, without discrimination regardless of disability.
In our world of limited resources, parents find it more and more difficult to ensure that their children receive appropriate educational services within the public education system. We recognize that while you work out differences with your child’s school, you must maintain a solid partnership with your child’s school and teachers.
